Federated Farmers feedback on the latest review of the Wairarapa Combined District Plan

Feds have provided feedback on the recently-released Draft Wairarapa Combined District Plan. This plan is being put out as a combined district plan by the 3 Wairarapa district councils (Masterton, Carterton and South Wairarapa), and covers a range of topics including rural land use, rural subdivision, and other matters including Significant Natural Areas and Landscape etc. While we understand why the Councils want to review the old out-of-date district plan, we still think there’s room for improvement in the new plan, including: increasing water supply resilience and better enabling of farming, and protection of agricultural production land, and needing to get landowner permission where new rules for protection of biodiversity, Significant Natural Areas, Landscapes etc. on privately owned land.  This is just the first cut of the three councils reviewed district plan, and there will be further opportunity for formal submissions when the new plan is eventually publicly notified.
