Submission on the Review of the Building Consent System
Federated Farmers of New Zealand welcomes the opportunity to submit to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) on the Review of the Building Consent System.
Federated Farmers has a longstanding interest in regulatory matters, including of buildings and farm structures. We have worked on issues such as reviews of the Dam Safety Scheme, the Building Code, and Earthquake-Prone Buildings. We also have a long-standing interest in local government policy, including roles and responsibilities, funding and financing, regulation, and representation. Building consenting is a core role and responsibility of local government.
Federated Farmers considers it important to review regulatory systems and processes to ensure they remain fit for purpose and administratively efficient and do not impose unreasonable compliance costs on businesses and individuals.
